From Director Will Gunn: This spring, I’m excited to present a different concept with the musical selections. Inspired by a cantata I heard last spring, all the music this semester is inspired around our central piece, When Memory Fades. Half of the songs are from the perspective of people suffering from Alzheimer's dementia, with selections from the 1920s and 1930s including A Grand Night for Singing, Someone to Watch Over Me, and As Time Goes By . The other half will be from the perspective of their friends and family, such as Try to Remember,Forgetting, and Call to Remembrance. We will close with the final movement from Joan Szymko’s work, Shadow and Light, a multi-movement work dedicated to people with Alzheimers.
